Products Description of AMBERLITE(R) XAD-4 CAS#37380-42-0

Ion exchange resins are functional polymers capable of exchanging ions with the same electrical charge in aqueous solutions. They are essentially cross-linked polymeric acids or bases. Phenolic cation exchange resins were first introduced in 1935, with industrial production beginning in Germany in 1939 and the United States in 1941. Following World War II, polystyrene-based and polyacrylic acid-based ion exchange resins were successively developed and commercialized. From the 1960s onward, macroporous ion exchange resins were introduced.

Based on their exchange groups, ion exchange resins are classified into cation exchange and anion exchange types. According to the degree of ion dissociation, they can also be categorized as strong-acid, weak-acid, strong-base, and weak-base resins. Based on their physical structure and form, these materials are further classified into gel-type resins, macroporous resins, and ion exchange membranes. In addition, specialized varieties, including chelating resins, amphoteric resins, and oxidation-reduction resins, have been developed for different applications.

Product Application of AMBERLITE(R) XAD-4 CAS#37380-42-0

Ion exchange resins possess a variety of functional properties, including ion exchange, adsorption, catalysis, decolorization, dehydration, and oxidation-reduction. As a result, they are widely used in industries such as electronics, electrical engineering, metallurgy, chemicals, nuclear energy, pharmaceuticals, light industry, and environmental protection.

Typical applications include water softening, seawater desalination, and high-purity water production. These resins can also be used to recover precious metals from wastewater, remove radioactive substances from water, and separate, concentrate, purify, and recover uranium. In addition, they play an important role in the separation and purification of rare earth elements and precious metals, as well as in the purification of amino acids, antibiotics, vitamins, and other valuable compounds.
