Products Description of Calcium Hypochlorite CAS#7778-54-3

Calcium hypochlorite, widely referred to as bleaching powder, has the chemical formula CaCl₂·Ca(ClO)₂·2H₂O. This compound takes the form of white powder, and its composition may differ according to adopted manufacturing routes. Typically, it is a hydrated complex salt mixture comprising calcium hypochlorite, calcium chloride and residual unreacted calcium hydroxide, with calcium hypochlorite functioning as the active constituent.

Calcium hypochlorite is a strong oxidizer and carries corrosive and irritant attributes. It decomposes in the presence of water, ethanol or inorganic acids. When mixed with water or inorganic acids, hypochlorous acid is liberated, which delivers powerful oxidation, bleaching and bactericidal effects. For this reason, the bleaching capacity of calcium hypochlorite primarily originates from the oxidative activity of hypochlorous acid.

Product Application of Calcium Hypochlorite CAS#7778-54-3

Calcium hypochlorite is a high-efficiency bleaching agent with favourable storage stability. It can stay stable without decomposition for over 200 days under ambient storage conditions. It is mainly adopted for bleaching cotton, linen, synthetic fibres, pulp and starch.

It is also extensively used for disinfection and sterilization of potable water and swimming pool water, as well as mildew control and preservation of leather goods during storage. Within the paper-making sector, it is widely deployed for pulp bleaching; in the textile industry, it is used to bleach cotton, linen and silk fabrics.

Furthermore, calcium hypochlorite performs disinfection treatment for urban and rural drinking water, swimming pools and other water bodies. For chemical manufacturing, it is utilized for acetylene purification and the synthesis of chloroform and other organic feedstocks. It can also act as a wool shrink-proof agent, deodorant and for other special-purpose scenarios.
