Products Description of 2'-Fucosyllactose CAS#41263-94-9
2’-Fucosyllactose (2’-FL), marketed under BASF’s Newtrition® portfolio for human nutrition since early 2019, ranks among the most abundant human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) formulated for infant nutrition. HMOs constitute a distinctive family of carbohydrates naturally present in breast milk; after fat and lactose, they form the third-largest solid fraction of human breast milk.
2’-Fucosyllactose is manufactured via microbial fermentation using genetically modified Escherichia coli strains. It can be incorporated into a wide array of nutritional products, including Stage 1 infant formula (0–12 months), Stage 2 infant formula (6–12 months), special dietary formula, and toddler nutritional supplements.
Scientific studies demonstrate that 2’-FL supports balanced gut microbiota and immune system maturation. It may help reduce the risk of allergic conditions and contributes to normal brain function and cognitive development. Furthermore, 2’-fucosyllactose represents a promising functional ingredient for digestive wellness, as it exhibits potential to modulate mucosal inflammation.

Product Application of 2'-Fucosyllactose CAS#41263-94-9
Breastfeeding is recognized as the gold standard for infant nutrition. Natural breast milk from the majority of women contains 2'-fucosyllactose (2'-FL), while infants cannot independently synthesize fucosylated human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs).
2'-FL is one of the predominant oligosaccharides in human milk and does not exist in cow’s milk. Commercially manufactured 2'-FL now enables the fortification of this valuable constituent within infant nutritional products.
Acting as a prebiotic, 2'-FL nourishes favourable gut bacteria, which metabolize it into short-chain fatty acids. Such metabolites supply energy for colon epithelial cells and facilitate sodium and water absorption. Standard infant formulas formulated as breast milk alternatives usually lack this substance that occurs abundantly in human milk.
Many infants naturally receive 2'-FL via breastfeeding, rather than versions produced by industrial biosynthesis. Commercial 2'-FL grades, including Jennewein 2'-FL, are chemically identical to the native 2'-FL present in human breast milk.
