Products Description of Copper (II) Nitrate Hydrate CAS#10031-43-3
Copper(II) nitrate trihydrate is a hygroscopic solid that absorbs moisture easily from ambient air and dissolves freely in water, with a solubility of roughly 45 g at 0°C. Recrystallization can be achieved by introducing concentrated nitric acid. Upon heating to red heat, it decomposes into nitrogen oxides and copper oxide, and decomposition can also be triggered by hydrochloric acid.
Typical hydrated forms of copper nitrate cover copper nitrate hexahydrate (Cu(NO₃)₂·6H₂O) and copper nitrate trihydrate (Cu(NO₃)₂·3H₂O). The hexahydrate exists as blue crystals with a relative density of 2.074. It sheds three water molecules of crystallization at 26.4°C and transforms into the trihydrate, and further decomposes into basic copper salts at 65°C.
Copper nitrate trihydrate takes the shape of dark blue trigonal prismatic crystals. It has a molecular weight of 241.60, a melting point of 114.5°C and a density of 2.32 g/cm³. It is miscible in water and ethanol; its concentrated solution shows a green colour, whereas diluted solution is pale blue. This substance is highly deliquescent and dissolves in its own crystal water at 114.5°C. When heated up to 170°C, it releases nitric acid to yield basic copper nitrate, and decomposes into copper oxide at approximately 200°C.
Classified as an oxidizing substance, copper nitrate requires cautious handling. Blending it with carbon, sulphur or other combustibles may lead to fire or explosion hazards. It is extensively deployed for copper electroplating, agrochemical production, enamel processing, dye formulation and other industrial scenarios. Copper nitrate can be synthesized by reacting copper oxide or metallic copper with dilute nitric acid.

Product Application of Copper (II) Nitrate Hydrate CAS#10031-43-3
Copper(II) nitrate hydrate has a broad spectrum of industrial uses, such as enamel tinting, copper electroplating, copper oxide fabrication and agrochemical manufacturing. It acts as a critical feedstock to produce high-purity copper oxide, other copper salts and copper-plated materials.
Besides, it can be deployed as a mordant, copper-based catalyst and combustion promoter. Within the enamel sector, it works as a colorant, and in the coating industry, it is adopted to manufacture inorganic pigments. It also serves as an analytical reagent, oxidizer, reagent for strontium testing, nitrating agent for aromatic organosilicon substances, and catalyst for organic synthetic reactions.
